PROGRAMS

The Down Syndrome Association of Houston is here to help and support you throughout your journey as the parent, family member, or caregiver of an individual with Down syndrome. Please read below to learn more about the programs and services we offer. If you have any questions about any of these programs or services, email us or call our office at (713) 682-7237.

Coffee & Confidence and PG-13

Coffee and Confidence is a time for parents of children with Down syndrome under 5 to get together and discuss what is going on in their child’s life and share information with other parents.

PG-13 is for parents of children with Down syndrome, ages 6-13, to get together and discuss what is going on in their child’s life and share information with other parents.

You can find one of these opportunities going on regularly either at the DSAH Resource Center or at a Community Group gathering.

Community Groups

Community groups are the heart of DSAH. They provide local support, resources, and events for individuals with Down syndrome and their families. In a city as large as Houston, bringing resources to parents is instrumental in meeting our mission and vision. To join a community group, call our office or contact us via email for more information.

ARTS AND ACTIVITIES

Arts and activities programs take place throughout our Greater Houston service area on a regular basis. Whether it’s art clinics with the famous Miss Maryam, soccer clinics with our Strake Jesuit all-star volunteers, dance lessons with the Houston Ballet, therapeutic horse experiences with Sire stables, or bloom fitness classes at the Center for Pursuit. Call us, sign up for our newsletter or check our social media pages for details.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION & SUPPORT

DSAH is proud to offer its expertise regarding Down syndrome and its impacts on individuals, families, and communities. We can help improve a school, company, or a non-profit organization’s understanding of intellectual disabilities while also providing much-needed information and support. Please contact our office today to schedule your training!

“Congratulations!” Program

The purpose of the “Congratulations!” Program is to “congratulate” parents of newborn babies with Down syndrome. In a world where others often express sorrow for the birth of a child with Down syndrome, DSAH says with pride, reassurance, and passion, “Congratulations!” Contact our office or your hospital’s social worker to request a “Congratulations!” gift basket at no cost… or complete this form. Watch this short video about our Congratulations! Program.

DSAH Resource Center

DSAH prides itself on being able to provide accurate information and timely referrals to any individual with Down syndrome and their family members. If you have questions, need information, or referrals related to Down syndrome, please call our office at (713) 682-7237 or email at  info@dsah.org.

EMPOWERMENT THROUGH EDUCATION WORKSHOPS

As a mission-driven nonprofit, DSAH prides itself on providing individuals with Down syndrome, their family members, and the community that serves them access to high-quality, relevant information in the form of short 1-2 hour education workshops. Past workshops have included topics on IEP support, potty training, special needs planning, and the Medicaid Waiver programs. Please call our office at (713) 682-7237 or email  info@dsah.org to learn about past and future workshops.
