Each year all the families of Down Syndrome Association of Houston (DSAH) gather up their family and friends, to come take part in this wonderful Awareness Walk. It is the main awareness program and fundraiser that DSAH has each year, and it helps us continue to grow the programs and services that we provide to our families.
The Buddy Walk has three primary goals:
- To promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.
- To raise funds locally and nationally for education, research and advocacy programs; and
- To enhance the position of the Down syndrome community, enabling us to positively influence local and national policy and practice.
Nationally, the Buddy Walk® is the most widely recognized public awareness event for the Down syndrome community. Locally, over the past 17 years, the DSAH has held a family-friendly event open to all children and adults with Down syndrome, their families, friends and thousands of local supporters.
