Marissa Glass - Co-Head Coach - Education for Life
My name is Marissa Glass. I completed my undergraduate degree at Stephen F. Austin State University in Health Sciences. I used my Health Science degree at a small municipality teaching their community about environmental health (storm water, recycling, litter abatement, etc.) and providing volunteer service opportunities to the community. I learned quickly that I am service oriented and that my main life goal is to serve my community to the best of my abilities. This brought me to pursue my graduate degree in social work at the University of Texas at Arlington. I am at DSAH because I love to learn and serve. I am so excited to see how I can serve and facilitate the Education for Life curriculum to the adult participants at DSAH. Outside of work I like to explore Houston and all the outdoor activities (and food) it has to offer!
Ben Lee - Co-Head Coach - Education for Life
Born and raised in a nondescript suburb called Winter Springs in Florida, Ben Lee did not possess a penchant for surfing nor did he possess a particular passion for community based work yet. Not deterred with a seemingly rudderless path in life despite a fresh BS in Microbiology in hand, he eventually cultivated a fondness for community programming work while working with various populations during his final stages of his tenure at the University of Florida. Warp speed forward to his Texas chapter of life - Ben is now deeply entrenched in his journey to garner a doctorate in public health at UTHealth, which will add to his purview of social and behavioral science academic background (Master in Public Health), adolescent sexual health education skills, and mental health work experience. An aside, throughout the week you will find Ben serving at his church in the youth department or international ministry. Also you may spot him gleefully playing ultimate frisbee at various pickup groups throughout Houston.
Shalom Miranda - Coach - Education for Life
Shalom is currently a student at the University of Houston and majoring in Bilingual Elementary Education. In her free time, she loves to volunteer at her church with the youth, play the cello, and annoy her 3 cats back at home. Her passion in life has always been to serve others and to work with and around people to help them meet their needs. Her favorite part about working at DSAH is that she gets to do that every day and still manage to have a lot of fun with the best people in the world!
Juana Maldonado - Coach - Education for Life
Juana Maldonado has been the coach/instructor of the Education for Life Program at DSAH for the past 5 1/2 years. Prior to working at DSAH, she worked with adults who had special needs at two other nonprofit day programs. Juana is pursuing an Associate’s Degree at Lonestar College, and is planning on transferring to the University of Houston to continue a degree in teaching. Juana enjoys being part of DSAH because of the laughter and hugs she encounters every day from the adults. Plus it is a fun environment!
Juana enjoys spending her free time with her husband and son, in addition, she is currently expecting another child.
