New Baby Gift Baskets
The Down Syndrome Association of Houston in collaboration with Houston-area hospitals is bringing much-needed support to new parents of children with Down syndrome right to their bedside.
Parents, family members, or hospital personnel (social workers, genetic counselors, nurses, etc.) can help ease the transition into caring for a child with Down syndrome by requesting a New Baby Gift Basket for the family.
Before the family leaves the hospital, a member of the DSAH staff will hand-deliver a basket full of
current information on Down syndrome and local resources, as well as baby items. The staff member stays as long as needed to answer any questions, provide insight into the life of a child with Down syndrome, or just listen.
Since we launched this program in 2009, we have delivered over 120 New Baby Gift Baskets to hospitals all around the Houston area. We enjoy every opportunity we get to welcome a precious new life and family into our community! See our statistics.
If you would like to request a New Baby Gift basket for yourself or a family member, friend, or patient, please fill out the form below or e-mail Aida Garza at [email protected]
Please keep in mind that for a family to be eligible to receive a basket they must meet the following criteria:
- The baby MUST have a possible diagnosis of Down syndrome.
- The baby MUST still be in the hospital.
- The parent(s) MUST agree and sign a release of information form so the basket can be delivered.
