 Memorial Service for John Lund
Wednesday, June 14, 2017

6pm at Lahart Chapel
Strake Jesuit College Preparatory
8900 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77036

We have a very heavy heart as we share this sad news. Our friend John Lund passed away unexpectedly on the night of May 24th, 2017.

John was very much dedicated to serving our individuals with Down syndrome and their families. He believed in the inclusion and acceptance of our friends. He created lifelong friendships amongst our community by connecting the athletes of Strake Jesuit College Preparatory with our members. John was generous and devoted much of his time and energy to creating and directing the Buddy Bowling, Buddy Basketball and Buddy Cheerleading programs. He arranged dances for our loved ones held at Strake Jesuit and was a committed volunteer for Club 21. He also served on DSAH’s Board of Directors for 2 years and was recently employed as a Development Professional to fundraise for Education for Life.

He worked and played with love and brought much happiness to our members. All that he did for our community was very much appreciated and made and enormous impact to our community. It was because of John that we were able to open the eyes of many Houstonians and show them that individuals with Down syndrome are more alike than different. He was an advocate for our members.

As a tribute to his contributions, dedication and generosity to the Down Syndrome Association of Houston, we ask that you share your favorite stories about John Lund and photographs via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram by using the hashtag #OURBUDDYJOHN. You can also send your stories to [email protected] to be shared on our website, newsletters, and social media

  1. I am John’s niece, Stacey. I appreciate your heartwarming tribute to my Uncle John. I loved to see the joy he brought to all of these people as well as the extreme joy it brought him. On the other side of my family I have two cousins with Down Syndrome one of which Uncle John lived across the alley from for several years. Uncle John always admired and connected with Calvin and I would like to think Calvin led him to this path. I am so thankful that he had all of you in his life. I’m sending love and prayers to you as we all cope with our heartache. ❤
