S.T.A.R. Athletes

The Down Syndrome Association of Houston is proud to say that many of our parents and supporters are involved in various athletic events year round.  Many of them found their loved one with Down syndrome as their inspiration to compete in these events!

Our S.T.A.R. Athletes program allows many parents, friends and supporters of the Down syndrome community to support DSAH by acquiring various donations in honor of their loved one with DS via online when participating in any of athletic programs in the greater Houston area.

Meet some of our S.T.A.R Athletes:

Jack Bates

family collage

After watching the last hour of the 2014 Ironman Texas athletes cross the finish line, Jack Bates gave greater consideration to this item that had been on his bucket list for a while. He was convinced by the stories that inspired each competitor to take on the challenge. As soon as registration for the Ironman Texas competition opened the next day, Jack signed up! It was the right time.

Ricardo Treviño

ironmanazIn completing the Arizona Ironman in November 2013, I realized a dream and in doing so was able to raise $16,000 for children with cleft palates. A year later I found myself asking how can I continue to help children. The answer, The Down Syndrome Association of Houston (http://dsah.org/ ), and with knowing family and friends with children facing this head on what better way to help them than by raising money for such a good cause.
